How To Clean A Toro’s Carburetor

Old man winter has finally fled from the country and that means that the warm breezes of spring are here. That means it is time to dust off the old lawn mower and take on your lawn.

When first bring your lawn mower out of hibernation, there are certain things you need to do in preparing it to cut the lawn. One of those things includes cleaning the carburetor.

If you own a Toro lawn mower and have had it for a few years, then you know that after several months of sitting quietly in the garage or tool shed the carburetor is probably going to be clogged with old, gummy gas if you did not take the time to remove the gas when you prepared the mower for sleep. Cleaning the carburetor before using the lawn mower for the first time of the season can prevent it from damage that could lead to its replacement.

Items you will need to perform the task include:

• Pliers
• Wrench
• Bucket
• Carburetor Cleaning Spray

Cleaning The Toro’s Carburetor

The process of cleaning the Toro’s carburetor of your lawn mower takes seven steps.

Step One: Locate the gas tank in order to find the Toro’s carburetor. Once you find the tank, follow the gasoline hose that is clamped to tank’s base through to the carburetor.
Step Two: Squeeze the clamp on the gas hose with the pliers and slide it down several inches.
Step Three: Remove the hose from the side nozzle of the carburetor and point it down into the bucket to drain out the old gas.
Step Four: Spray some carburetor cleaner into the side nozzle of the carburetor for about 15 seconds, then reconnect the hose and slide the clamp back into place.
Step Five: Use the wrench to remove the bolt on the base of the carburetor to release the fuel bowl and dump any old gas into the bucket.
Step Six: Spray some carburetor cleaner into the fuel bowl and on top of its float, then screw the fuel bowl back onto the carburetor. Be certain that the bowl is secure.
Step Seven: Reinstall the carburetor to the mower.
