With the bigger budgets, the differences from one budget to the next may not seem that great, particularly in the range of $3,000 – $4,000. Where you can find mowers with large decks at lower prices, in this range you won’t find quite the luxuries you’ll find at higher budgets either. That being said, there are still some really good zero-turn and riding mowers in this budget range, and some quality values.

John Deere Z245

The 54-inch mower deck will certainly help take care of vast lawns in short order. The deck is coated twice, for extra protection against rust – this deck is built for a long life. It’s powered by a 22-horsepower V-Twin engine with electronic ignition for constant, easy starts. Our favorite thing about this zero-turn mower is the comfortable, ergonomic operator station that makes life easy. From the mid-back seat on springs that provides a comfortable ride, to the cup holder and open storage compartment to carry everything you need, it works well. The controls are color coordinated and arranged for easy use. Coming in just within the budget at $3,999, this is a great machine.

Husqvarna GT52XLS

One of the few lawn tractors in this budget range, this Husqy puts user ergonomics and comfort high on its list. It has a step-through design, a 15-inch seat back with armrests, and a steering wheel design for ease of use. A 24-horsepower Kawasaki V-twin engine propels this lawn tractor at up to 8 miles per hour. The 52-inch cutting deck can be adjusted from 1.5 to 4 inches, with a fender mounted adjustment lever. Best of all, the blades have an easy-to-use blade engagement switch. This tractor is well within budget at an MSRP of $3,299.95, leaving extra dough for accessories.

Ariens 915165

The star of the 915165 is the welded 10-gauge steel, 48-inch mower deck that is rock solid and dent resistant. It can be adjusted to one of seven cutting heights, from 1.5″ to 4.5″. The 22-horsepower Kohler Twin engine propels the mower at up to 6.5 miles per hour. All of this is attached to a fully welded tubular steel frame for a long life. At an MSRP of $3,999, the Ariens is a solid piece of equipment.

Simplicity Broadmoor 44-Inch

With Simplicity’s electric blade height adjustment system, you can manicure the lawn at any height you like between 1.5 and 4 inches. The height settings are not at set intervals, but can be adjusted to anywhere in that range. With cruise control, electric push button start, and an electric PTO blade engagement switch, the Broadmoor is easy to use. The minimum advertised price of this tractor falls in the middle of the budget, at $3,599.

Toro TimeCutter 5060

Toro TimeCutter 5060

Toro TimeCutter 5060

With a 50-inch, three-bladed deck and an engine that can hit 7 miles per hour, this zero-turn mower will certainly cut the amount of time your on it. Of course, with the creature comforts built in, you won’t mind the time you spend. The seat features an 18-inch high back, for extra support, while the floor features an anti-vibration mat to reduce the toll on your legs and feet. The bull-nose guard and heavy duty rear engine guard protect both ends from bangs and bumps around the yard. Coming in at $3,599, right in the middle of the budget range, we feel this is the best value you’ll find in the range.
